Application Pool Terminates Unexpectedly

$
0
0

The process w3wp.exe serving the application pool for our website terminates unexpectedly. Due to which, the website responds with HTTP Error 503 - Service unavailable.

Manually restarting the application pool for the website brings the site back up.

We have discovered no pattern in the crashes, it appears at this time to be random/intermittent.

We have pulled the debug files / info for the most recent crash...

It looks to be pointing to ColdFusion.

Hi,

Im using coldfusion 8 and coldfusion report builder for reporting. I have enabled RDS in Coldfusion Server.

Im using IIS and port 80. Hostname: http://localhost . RDS security the same as my CF admin for username and password.

.cfr and .cfm are working without connecting the RDS. But i want the RDS to connect to my datasource directly so that i can

only make a query on Coldfusion Report Builder. Please help me on this because I really want to understand this thing.

Can a Solr collection index CLOB?

Hello, everyone,

Right now we are trying to figure a way to increase capacity for varchar2 beyond 4000 bytes.  One option on the table is to convert the varchar2 to CLOB.  But that makes me wonder if a Solr collection can index CLOB??

Strange Scheduled Task (Quartz) behaviour CF10

$

Hi,

I'm running ColdFusion 10 Enterprise on a RHEL 6 server and have come across an intersting behaviour in relation to the scheduled tasks we have setup.

We noticed that after a reboot of our ColdFusion server that the scheduled tasks weren't running correctly.

When I looked in the http.log file I could see that it was trying to execute the correct template

"Information","DefaultQuartzScheduler_Worker-9","10/25/13","07:18:16",,"Starting HTTP request {URL='...', method='get'}"

But the request never appears to be completed. When a task successfully runs you would expect to see a completed line as well in the http.log file

"Information","DefaultQuartzScheduler_Worker-9","10/25/13","07:18:21",,"HTTP request completed  {Status Code=200 ,Time taken=4896 ms}"

For some reason after the server reboot the task is triggered, but it never runs and never shows as being complete.

I was playing changing settings in the scheduled task and checked the Save output to a file

One other thing I noticed was that the catalina task (check for update/hotfix) would execute and return while the other tasks (quartz) wouldn't.

Has anyone seen anything similar or have any suggestions? For now i'll just make sure my tasks all output to a file, but if there was a way to fix it I would much prefer to do that.

Thanks

Simon

Clients registry error ?

Good morning,
Anyone has an idea about this error or a solution.
quote:

Information [jrpp-22] - Unable to set value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\ColdFusion\CurrentVersion\Clients\.........\cfid: Windows error number 2 occurred. The handle is invalid

I checked and test my code, It seems to be a registry writing error but I m not sure.

It s maybe to early but I have no idea for this issue.
I hope it is quite simple for an advanced coldfusion administrator.

Thanks

Can't connect to Jetty/Admin service remotely

$

I have Jetty installed on our local CF dev server so I can take advantage of stopping & starting CF from my dev box (on the same LAN as the CF dev server). CF 10 on a Win7 Pro 64-bit box.

I can connect to Jetty from the dev server via http://localhost:8985.

I've added firewall exceptions for it (tried both specific ports and allowing jetty.exe through).

But I just can't connect to it from any machine other than the one where Jetty is installed - it times out as if the port is blocked. I looked over the jetty director at the connector (which I'm admittedly not too familiar with) but I didn't see anything in there about 'localhost only' especially as the whole point is to be able to access the service remotely.

Am I missing something? I get not wanting to expose it to the wild, but our external firewall handles that. Do I need to mess with the internal tomcat setup for this to work?

High Eden Java Memory Usage/Garbage Collection

$

Hi,

I am trying to make sure that my Coldfusion Server is optomised to the max and to find out what is normal limits.

Basically it looks like at times my servers can run slow but it is possible that this is caused by a very old bloated code base.

Jrun can sometimes have very high CPU usage so I purchased Fusion Reactor to see what is going on under the hood.

Here are my current Java settings (running v6u24):

java.args=-server -Xmx4096m -Xms4096m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:PermSize=256m -Dsun.rmi.dgc.client.gcInterval=600000 -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=600000 -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -XX:+UseParallelGC -Xbatch ........

With regards Memory, the only memory that seems to be running a lot of Garbage Collection is the Eden Memory Space. It climbs to nearly 1.2GB in total just under every minute at which time it looks like GC kicks in and the usage drops to about 100MB.

Survivor memory grows to about 80-100MB over the space of 10 minutes but drops to 0 after the scheduled full GC runs. Old Gen memory fluctuates between 225MB and 350MB with small steps (~50MB) up or down when full GC runs every 10 minutes.

I had the heap set to 2GB initally in total giving about 600MB to the Eden Space. When I looked at the graphs from Fusion Reactor I could see that there was (minor) Garbage Collection about 2-3 times a minute when the memory usage maxed out the entire 600MB which seemed a high frequency to my untrained eye. I then upped the memory to 4GB in total (~1.2GB auto given to Eden space) to see the difference and saw that GC happened 1-2 times per minute.

Is it normal in Coldfusion that the Eden memory would grow so quickly and have garbage collection run so often? i.e do these graphs look normal?

Also should I somehow redistribute the memory available to give the Eden memory more since it seems to be where all the action is?

Any other advice for performance improvements would be much appreciated.

Note: These graphs are not from a period where jrun had high CPU.

Perfmon Counters breaking when CF9 installed on Windows 2008 R2 Full

$

Hi,

It seems that installing CF9 on Windows Server 2008 R2 breaks the perfmon counters on the server. I had originally tried this on core edition which broke the counters but it was pointed out here that core edition is not specifically listed as being supported. I have now tried it on the full web edition and am having the same problem.

The problem is that after I install Coldfusion 9 and reboot, when I open perfmon on that server (or remotely) the list for the perfmon counters is completely blank. There is a scroll bar looks like there is a long list of perfmon objects/counters to choose from (in that I can drag it up and down) but the list is just empty/white and nothing can be clicked on i.e. no text or selections.

I have taken a snapshot and repeated this installation over and over again with or without components installed to the same result.

If I try to pull perfmon information via WMI (using this powershell script) I can see that all the win32_PerfRawData  and win32_PerfFormattedData classes are missing - including those not  relating to IIS. They were definitely there before installing CF9.

Here are my steps to reproduce:

I am installing on a VMWare virtual server.

1. Installing Windows Server 2008 R2 Web Full edition

2. Disable the firewall for all profiles

3. Set an ip address etc

4. Join Server to domain

5. Enable remote desktop

6. Install IIS with all options selected (except webdav)

7. Install CF9 64 bit

--- Visual C++ is installed first then I restart

--- Check perfmon and everything is showing fine

--- I run the installer again and install with defaults (have tried with odbc connections etc on and off and using the built in webserver and IIS)

--- Check perfmon and everything is still ok

--- I reboot the server and check perfmon only to see the list empty as above

Anyone got any ideas?

Can anyone replicate this issue as it is driving me insane!?

How do you use relative paths in ColdFusion?

$

I'm having a problem I cant wrap my head around. I have 4 websites that all reside under C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot\websites\. Unfortunatly, when I use relative paths, it always navigates from wwwroot instead of from that websites folder. I want to make it so that I can use relative paths that are always calculated from the websites root folder instead of the ColdFusion wwwroot folder.

I had a temporary fix to just create a mapping in the CF Administartor. Although, this became a problem because I had to change it everytime I worked on a different website. Also, it would work properly if I used a relative path like (/documents). Instead it would only work if I did a relative path like (./documents).

Can anybody help me solve this? I've spent so much time trying things its not even funny.

I'm using the CF9 Developer Edition with Dreamweaver CS4.

How do I troubleshoot "A non-SQL error occurred while requesting a connection from ." errors?

$

Hello,

Last week we began seeing some timeout errors, but today there have been much more of them and I’m not sure how to proceed in troubleshooting.

We have 2 load balanced app servers:

Windows Server 2008 R2 (virtualized)

ColdFusion 8, Enterprise

And a database server:

Windows Server 2008 R2

SQL 2012

The error in “coldfusion-out.log” is:

A non-SQL error occurred while requesting a connection from <DSN>.

Timed out trying to establish connection

This only happens on one of the web servers, but it happens more frequently when the app servers is under a heavier load. Most of the day it works fine, but 4 or 5 times throughout the day we will have 1 – 15 requests timeout in a row(always varies), and then things will be fine again w/out restarting or doing anything.

The database server is much more powerful than the app server, and I don't believe the issue involves long running queries or the DB server being under heavy load.

I’m a DBA who is temporarily handling System Admin responsibilities, and I’m not sure how to further trouble shoot this. I just started some pings going from the app server to the database using IP and the listeners name. How else can I prepare for the next time it happens. What other logs should I be looking at to gain some insight? Are there PerfMon counters I could use to help troubleshoot?

Thanks for your help!

CF10 - Random Access Denied errors (java.io.FilePermission)

I've been having an error that is randomly plaguing me.  For some reason, I get the following error message:

The web site you are accessing has experienced an unexpected error.

Please contact the website administrator.

The following information is meant for the website developer for debugging purpose!

The following is the internal exception message: access denied (java.io.FilePermission c:/coldfusion10/cfusionl/wwwroot/CFIDE read)

Resources:

. Enable Robust Exception Information to provide greater detail about the source

of errors, In the Administrator, click Debugging & Logging > Debug Output

Settings, and select the Robust Exception Information option.

. check the coldFusion documentation to verify that you are using the correct

syntax.

. search the Knowledge Base to find a solution to your problem.

Whenever I get this error, if I just refresh, it will return the page as expected.  It only seems to happen if the site has been idle for some time.  If I refresh it 100 times in a row afterwards, it loads every time without a problem.

Here is the code from the file:

<cfquery name="COLUMNTEST" datasource="myds">

    SELECT table_name

    FROM user_tables

</cfquery>

<cfdump var="#COLUMNTEST#">

This is on Windows Server 2008 R2, ColdFusion 10 Update 7.  The application is inside a Security Sandbox.  I originally thought that I might need to add that path to the security sandbox of the application for it to work but it doesn't make any sense why a refresh of the page would then magically make it work.

The CFIDE directory in IIS is actually just a virtual directory pointing to portions of the /CFIDE directory such as /CFIDE/scripts and /CFIDE/classes.

Any ideas?

CFAdmin's new Scheduled Task system Fails at Everything

$

So about a month and a half ago we switched from CF9 to CF10, and we were excited about what new features we would find in the revamped Scheduled Tasks section.  As it turns out, our optimism and faith was severely misplaced.  In every single aspect of the scheduler product, Adobe fails to deliver a usable product, and in most cases takes severe steps backward.

Did you copy over your old neo-cron file so that you wouldn't have to set up 50+ tasks by hand?

Well lucky for you that all the tasks will now be in CAPS for some reason, and every one of them is labeled as "paused" even though they are currently running.

Did you like how nicely CF9 grouped the tasks by type, sorting hourly, daily, and weekly tasks into groups?

For your convenience, that's now gone.

Would you like to change the name of your task?

Sorry!  Error Message: It is unable to store the job because one already exists with that designation.

Would you like to change what URL is called on the task?

Sorry!  Error Message:  It is unable to store the job because one already exists with that designation.

Would you like to start up a finished scheduled task again on a different date?

Well we can do that, but we refuse to give you any indication that it's actually been scheduled.

Would you like to create a new task?

We'll do that for you, but we won't show you the task in the overview.  You'll just have to wait until the first time it runs and then it will magically appear.

Would you like to delete a task?

Sorry!  Unhandled Error:  The following task could not be found.

Seriously.

This is the most unusable piece of garbage I can ever recall seeing.  I have been using ColdFusion since version 4.0 and I have never been this mad at it.  What is the point of out-sourcing your scheduler to Quartz if it doesn't work?

Import Exchange cert into JVM for CF10

$

Hello, everyone.

I'm trying to learn the CFEXCHANGECONNECTION and CFEXCHANGECONTACT tags, and I'm having a bit of an issue.

When I first started playing around with it, I was getting error messages that the connection couldn't be formed because the Exchange server only accepts https connections, so I set the protocol to https.

Then I was getting an error message regarding the "cert not installed in CF server", so I managed to get a copy of the SSL cert (DER format .cer file) and followed instructions on how to import it into the JVM that CF uses.

I'm still getting the error saying that the cert isn't installed in CF server.  Any suggestions?

Hello,

We upgraded from Coldfusion 9 to Coldfusion 11.

System:

OS: Windows 2008 r2 64bit

Ram: 16 gb

Steps I took to do this upgrade.

1. uninstalled CF 9

2. uninstalled current version of java

3. reboot system

4. install latest Java 1.8.x

5. install Coldfusion 11

6. run coldfusion 11 updates

7. configured all datasources and settings in cfusion instance. (didn't want to import from 9)

8. test cfusion instance to make sure everything is working.

9. create are new instances for the websites. (4)

10. sign in to each instance and tweak settings.

11. assign 1 site to each instance for testing.

12. test the each site and make sure everything is still working.

13. follow Adobe lockdown guide as much as we can.

14 retest everything still seems fine.

run 6-12 hours and I get random crashes.

suddently get CF errors saying can't find includes which is a false error.

after getting these errors and doing a google search I saw the connector tuning steps.

so I tried that but still get the same crashes.

I don't know what to look at next, I'm at a total loss on this issue since everything ran fine in CF 9.

Thank you in advance for any help and if you need more information let me know.

Coldfusion 11 SSL Certs applied - The APR based Apache Tomcat library which allows optimal performance in production environments,

Coldfusion 11

Windows Server 2012 R2

Both the Coldfusion admin and additonal site work fine on HTTP.

As soon as I attempt to enable SSL websockets and install SSL certs, the Coldfusion 11 Application service will not start. I followed the steps below....

Coldfusion 11 - Web Sockets via SSL

The Coldfusion-error.log shows

Jan 26, 2015 3:21:23 PM org.apache.catalina.core.AprLifecycleListener init

INFO: The APR based Apache Tomcat Native library which allows optimal performance in production environments was not found on the java.library.path

Server was a cloned VM of the test server with developer copy of CF11, but license has been purchased and applied. SSL certs have been imported successfully, paths are correct in CF Admin to the cert file etc.

Do I need to install another version of Coldfusion to get around this issue or is there a download update I need to apply?

If i reconfig the \cfusion\runtime\conf\server.xml to comment out the SSL sections it works fine.

Any assistance welcome - I can't allow this site to made publicly available with using SSL.

IIS Setup trying to open/save cfm files instead of rendering

Hi everyone.  I've setup my development environment to use IIS.  I can use either local i.p.'s or localhost:8500 - (regular ColdFusion).  I'm having an issue when calling any CFM file from my IIS and only in IIS.  If I go to a folder that contains an index.cfm file it will render it fine.  It's only when I actually type the index.cfm?fuseaction=xxx tht I have issues.

The issue does not exist when I do the same inside localhost:800, so I know it is an IIS issue.  Does anyone have any insight on this.  I tried Googling, but none of the solutions really help me - as it does render when it is not typed - so all of the IsapiModule and CGI references appear to be in place.

Thanks in advance.

My exception.log giving the error "There is an error accessing the log file. This could be caused by an incorrect log file name, or the log file does not exists anymore. Or your ODBC log file driver has a configuration problem." when I try to view it.

How can I recreate it?
