Multiple application pools for ColdFusion possible in the same IIS website?

$

I would like to set up a single website with CFM11 under IIS8.5

In this website there are several CFM applications, each under a different "Application" subfolder. For security purposes, monitoring and separate maintenance shutdowns per application, these would all need their own "application pool".

However, this means that these applications should run under a different application pool than their website root node. In IIS this causes a 403.18 exception:

HTTP Error 403.18 - Forbidden

The specified request cannot be processed in the application pool that is configured for this resource on the Web server.

Most likely causes:

•An ISAPI filter or custom module changed the URL to run in a different application pool than the original URL.

•An ISAPI extension (or custom module) used ExecuteURL (or ExecuteRequest) to run in a different application pool than the original URL.

•You have a custom error page that is located in one application pool but is referenced by a Web site in another application pool. When the URL is processed, it is determined by IIS that that it should have been processed in the first application pool, not the other pool.

•The Web site has multiple applications configured. The application this request is configured to run in is set to run in an application pool that does not exist.

All works fine if the "applications" in the subfolders run under the same application pool as the website root. However that is not my preferred setup... The behaviour is consistent over all CFM-applications that I deploy, no matter how simple they are...

Two questions:

- is coldfusion actually looking to "higher" folders than I expect it to? (and can that be avoided)

- any hints or experiences on how to avoid / solve this issue?

After a mail server problem,

I have many undelivered mail in the Coldfsuion Mail "undelivr" directory.

The Mail server is up again

Is there a possibility to resend all these mails ?

I tried a copy/paste of mails into the "spool" directory

but these mail are resent into the "undelivr" directory

and new mails are sent correctly.

Thanks for help.

Installing & Running PDFgServlet Add-on On Remote Server

I'm using CF11 Developer Edition.

Installed PDFgServlet on a remote server.

Using CFAdministrator on my Developer Edition, can VERIFY the remote PDF Service Manager.

But when I go and try to use the cfhtmltopdf tag on my Developer Edition, I get CANNOT CONNECT TO SERVER.

I go to the remote server running PDFgServlet, can see response code 200's when I verify the PDF Service Manager "GET /PDFgServlet/verify HTTP/1.1" 200 0

But I get "POST /PDFgServlet/ HTTP/1.1" 400 1407 when I try to use the tag

If I switch back to my local copy, I get the PDF rendered.

Any thoughts?

How to reset cached wsdls in CF11?

In CF 9 you could go into the Admin and remove wsdl's.  It seems the only way to clear wsdl cache is to restart the coldfusion instance.  is there a better way?

CFHTMLTOPDF / PDF Service Manager

In reviewing the CFHTMLTOPDF tag, it seemed like it would meet our needs.  Everything seemed to test well until things went into production.

Continuous requests caused the following error:

The content of this document process takes more than 60 milliseconds to process. This timeout value is obtained from the request timeout set in the ColdFusion Administrator. The specific sequence of files included or processed is: C:\Applications\cliq\apps\students\print.cfm, line: 26

I was able to easily overload the our test and development servers to cause the same error by repeatedly calling a page with the CFHTMLTOPDF tag.

Our interim solution was to restart to the Coldfusion Addon Services on the Windows 2012 server.  But I don't think this is ideal as it seems like a relatively low threshhold to be able to crash the process.

Does anyone know of any documentation or settings that could be set to avoid this issue?  We are currently on CF 11 Update 4 Enterprise Edition.

All the best,

Terry

How to find all running instances of ColdFusion on a server?

How to find out all running as well as inacitve  instances of CF on a server?

Application Pool Terminates Unexpectedly

The process w3wp.exe serving the application pool for our website terminates unexpectedly. Due to which, the website responds with HTTP Error 503 - Service unavailable.

Manually restarting the application pool for the website brings the site back up.

We have discovered no pattern in the crashes, it appears at this time to be random/intermittent.

We have pulled the debug files / info for the most recent crash...

It looks to be pointing to ColdFusion.

CF10 Apache crashing with 503

$

Hello Experts,

Server Product : ColdFusion

Version              : 10,0,18,296093(PreRelease)

OS                       : Unix

OS Version        : 2.6.32-573.12.1.el6.x86_64

Adobe Driver    : 4.1 (Build 0001)

So, we are having our CF server crash every now and then with 503 error. There is no particular pattern as to why this happens.

There are two servers behind a load balancer..... We have a health check methodology that checks for a cfm page every 10 seconds. If it receives multiple 503's, users are switched over to another server.

After a CF restart, things come backup normally. Following is the log file at the crash point for one instance.....

We see a few HTTP requests succeed and followed by an unresponsive server alert. This didn't make any sense to us what so ever

What we already tried doing ---------

  • Updated Tomcat connector settings on Server.xml and worker.properties. We have different timeout settings on these two files for our custom environment.
  • Disabled global client variables
  • Updated connection pool settings
  • Modified CFINVOKE calls to use CFHTTP

We are running out of options and are hitting a brick wall with no new ideas. I know we are missing a piece in the puzzle, but not sure where it is.... (Apache settings, Tomcat settings ???)

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Thank you in advance,

Sam.

I have a new installation of Coldfusion MX7 on a Fedora Core 4 machine. But I am having problems because whenever I try to open a *.cfm file coldfusion returns an error that says: "No Top Level Page was found" even though the path to the file is correct. Any hints?

is this error indicating that we need more licenses?

I have a scheduled task that will run manually  - clicking the run the task icon next to the scheduled task name in the CF administrator and in a browser.  However, if I schedule it to run in the evening or even in a few minutes it does not run.    I do not get any error messages in the logs.  I have renamed the CF administrator folder.

I would like to know where to start looking to start debugging this.

As always, thanks for your help!

Mail Spool Service Exception - Email Processing Stops

$
0

Environment:

Coldfusion 8.0.1 Hotfix hf801-71800  Both Standard and Enterprise.

Windows 2003 SP2

Microsoft Exchange Server Version unknown.

Issues:

We are testing a new application.  We purposely made some addresses invalid so that the Emails would not go out to bother our customers, our Exchange Server's SMTP is set to reject all Emails that have invalid addresses.  That is how we found the issue.

Our issue is that the Coldfusion server logs a single error message from the first rejected Email, "Invalid Addresses" with a date/time stamp in the mail.log, and the Mail Spool Service stops processing any additional Emails.  The Emails start stacking up in the Spool folder, but none are sent or in any other way processed  This behavior works the same way with Emails that have and do not have attachments.

That is our basic issue.  We understand that when an error message comes back, the Email is should be moved to the the Undelivr folder and other Emails should be processed.  Instead a single error message is posted.

We have verified this behavior on both the Standard and Enterprise Coldfusion server versions at our installation.

What are we missing, that would fix the Coldfusion Server's behavior?

Please note that we have extensively tested the situation and have the following test results.

Situation 1:

When the Mail Spool Service is working and the Email has all valid (25+) addresses it is sent out correctly with our existing code to all addressees and follow-on Emails were correctly processed.

Situation 2:

When the Mail Spool Service is working and the Email has an invalid (one of 50+) addresses it logs the single error to the mail.log and the Mail Spool Service stops processing follow-on Emails with our existing code.

Situation 3:

We sent an Email with "Invalid Addresses", the Email processing stopped.  We removed the Email with the  from the Spool folder.  The other Emails were not processed until the Mail Spool Service was restarted (either by accessing the ServiceFactory via code and executing <cfset MailSpoolService.start()> or by using the Windows 2003 Computer Management tool to restart the ColdFusion 8 Application Server.

Situation 4:

We restarted the Mail Spool Service after removing the Email with "Invalid Addresses", successfully processing Emails and then tried to drop the Email with "Invalid Addresses" into the Spool folder to see if we could generate more information.  We DID!  The mail.log got the "Invalid Addresses" Message and the Mail Spool Service stopped; But then (and only in this case, all other cases show no messages) the exception.log finally had the following messages:

"Error","scheduler-0","current day","16:57:52",,""

That is the only other Error listed in any of our Coldfusion logs.

Please help!  Request the Adobe Coldfusion personnel respond to this request for help too!

Other notes:  We have been adding security related hotfixes as soon as we know of them.  If you know of an issue with specific hotfixes please let me know.

Bad performance on CF9 after upgrade from CF8

Hello and happy new year for everybody

I'm stuck with a problem after upgrade from CF8 entreprise to CF9 entreprise.

We are using IIS6 on WIN2003R2 (SP2).

There are a lot of  "503 Server Error" with no content. (about 0.05% of request). This can be occured on big or small CFM, graphic ressources, etc...

For each error I can see the following error on the connector logs (jrun_iis6_wildcardYYMMDD.log).

2011-01-02 19:00:05 jrISAPI[1456:3940]  returning error page for JRun too busy or out of memory

I've never seen this message in previous CF connector version.

And on the jrun log (coldfusion-outXXX.log), I read the following errors:

CFIDE pointing to wrong server instance

$

I am using CF 9 Enterprise and have multi instances (instance and server in CF 9 are used interchangably here - I find the term server to be ambiguous in this case) on the same machine.  They share a common CFIDE directory (mounted as a Virtual Directory under the website) and the CFIDE directories under c:\jrun4\servers\<servername>\cfusion.ear\cfusion.war have been renamed.

Problem is the CFIDE's of two of the instances (the last two that were created) are pointing to the same instance (the last one created).  I have looked everywhere for a config that controls this but cannot find anything.

So when I go to:

https://cfadmin1/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm and https://cfadmin2/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm both sites have Server: cfserver1

I need to know how to change the cfadmin2 console to point to Server: cfserver2

There are a few possible causes:

When the last instance was added, the c:\jrun4\servers\cfserver2\cfusion.ear\cfusion.wa\CFIDE directory not renamed.

This appears to have caused cfserver2 to use that CFIDE directory instead of the shared one.  Renaming the directory fixed this problem.

I noticed some issues with the wsconfig.properties file where cfadmin2 was improperly registered, but I:

1)  removed it from the cfserver2 instance

2)  restarted IIS and the CF services and

3)  readded the cfadmin2

to fix that problem.

Also looked at the neo-security.xml and neo-runtime.xml files of the two instances and did not find anything out of the ordinary

Now I am out of ideas...

How to Full Trust localhost:8500

$

In our shop trusted intranet sites are set by group policy. So in order to allow an embedded ActiveX control, I use caspol to add my site to the group of trusted sites. If I have ColdFusion running under Apache HTML server on my desktop, I can add localhost to my trusted group, and my ActiveX control loads. But if I'm running the built-in CF server using port 8500, the control doesn't load. If I try adding localhost:8500 to the group using caspol, I get an invalid site error. So my questionis this: how do I make localhost:8500 a fulltrust site? (My browser is IE9.)

Help me figure this hack out.

So as i was opening my presents with my family Christmas morning when my web server emailed me to let me know that a file had been created in my /CFIDE/ folder. This file was h.cfm and it was a nifty little tool used to scan files - copy files - dump SQL passwords - run commands - upload files ect....

My setup is CF9.0.1 on win server 2008 with mySQL5.5 . The servers only purpose is to host a few websites for my company. I poured over my IIS logs and could not find any trace of a connection to the webserver while this was happening. I then started looking at the http.log file in coldfusion server and found that it contained 2 entries at the time of the attack. Both looked like this... note i've removed the IP of the server. This file is the file that was uploaded to my server.

25-Dec-2012    6:54 AM    Information    jrpp-6969  Starting HTTP request {URL='http://IPAddress:80/CFIDE/h9.txt', method='get'}

There was nothing before this connection and nothing after it.  It looks like some how my server was told to make a call to here.  Nothing in any logs regarding the use of the h.cfm, no loggs in IIS showing suspicious page hit before and nothign suspicious after.

Am i missing something??? this is driving me nuts! The other weird thing about this attack was that they didn't touch any websites they copied the ColdFusion9\updater_backup\ folder and a few other odd things off the server.

Any insight into anything that went on would be helpful... even if it's just a guess that points me in the right direction.

Thanks,

JB.

ColdFusion 10, Java 8, TLS 1.2 and SOLR

Hello,

So, first, some background - I need TLS 1.2 to work on my CF10 server for CFHTTP requests to PayPal (https://www.paypal-knowledge.com/infocenter/index?page=content&widgetview=true&id=FAQ1914& viewlocale=en_US).

After doing a bit of research, I'm still unsure as to whether you can actually get TLS 1.2 working with Java 7 on CF10, even though Java 7 supports it (see http://www.coldfusionmuse.com/index.cfm/2014/12/8/colfusion-jvm-versions-sslv3-tls) which has me wondering whether I need Java 8.

So, I'm thinking of upgrading CF10 to Java 8 which I know DOES work with TLS 1.2 but I rely heavily on SOLR and after reading Charlie Arehart's excellent article (CF911: 'Help! I've updated the JVM which ColdFusion uses, and now it won't start!' - Charlie Arehart's ColdFusion Troubl…) I'm concerned that whatever SOLR version shipped with CF10 won't be compatible with Java 8 and that having CF and SOLR pointing to different JREs is a bad idea.

Does anyone have any experience of upgrading CF10 to Java 8 and running SOLR? Does anyone know what happens if CF points to Java 8 and SOLR sticks with CF10s default Java 7 (minor version 15 I think)?

Thanks,

Louis

CFSTAT on CF8

Hi,

I upgraded our CF7-Standard to CF8-Standard (Linux RHE).

After that CFSTAT (/opt/coldfusion8/bin/cfstat) stop working.
It gives me the follow message:

--------------------------------
Could not contact the ColdFusion Application Server running on this machine:
Perhaps ColdFusion is not running on this machine?
Perhaps cfstat is not enabled from the ColdFusion administrator?
Perhaps ColdFusion was not restarted after enabling cfstat?
Perhaps cfstat service is not listening on default port?
Use option -port with port number as per the cfstatport
defined in the neo-metrics xml file.
--------------------------------

I didn´t figured out how to enable CFSTAT via Coldfusion Administrator.

Looking into neo-metric.xml file I can see:

--------------------------------
<wddxPacket version='1.0'><header/><data><struct type='coldfusion.server.ConfigMap'><var name='cfstat'><string>true</string></var><var name='c
fstatport'><number>1.0</number></var><var name='simpleLoad.sampleRate'><string>5</string></var><var name='reqTimingWindow'><string>10</string>
</var><var name='simpleLoad.constLoad'><string>200</string></var><var name='simpleLoad.maxRequests'><string>500</string></var><var name='cfper
fmon.pullfreq'><number>1.0</number></var><var name='simpleLoad.sampleSize'><string>50</string></var><var name='cfperfmon'><string>false</strin
g></var></struct></data></wddxPacket>
--------------------------------

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,
Ronan

Deploying CF App as WAR on Tomcat

I'm trying to deploy a simple CF8 application on Tomcat 5.5 as a WAR file. I've done the export of the app from the CF Admin as a WAR file and copied it over to my Tomcat webapps directory. When I first tried to start Tomcat, I got an error related to the "*.cfml/*" servlet-mappings in web.xml, so I commented those out based on a post I found elsewhere. But now I'm getting this error, and I can't figure out why:

javax.servlet.ServletException: Invalid configuration at line 2 in file /usr/local/apache-tomcat-5.5.23/webapps/wishlist/WEB-INF/flex/flex-config.xml - cvc-elt.1: Cannot find the declaration of element 'flex-config'.
at flex.server.j2ee.cache.CacheFilter.setupFlexService(CacheFilter.java:93)

The flex/flex-config.xml file is there, and line 2 reads:
<flex-config xmlns="http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex-config">

Are there other manual edits I need to make in order to get this to work? If Flex is the problem, can I disable it from being included in the WAR? Has anyone done this (putting a ColdFusion WAR file on Tomcat)?
